We have a high-efficiency gas-fired hot water heater (in our a basement) that is vented to the outside of our house. When the weather gets below -30°C the vent has a tendency to frost-over. When the water tank heater is unable to vent, it shuts off, depriving us of hot water. So when it frosts over we have to go outside and clean off the vent.
Learn MoreENERGY STAR ® Certified Water Heaters. High-efficiency water heaters use gas or electricity to heat water with tank, tankless or heat pump technologies. Hybrid Water Heaters. Save money on your energy bill by using heat pump technology to efficiently move heat from the surrounding air into the tank. Point of Use Water Heaters.
Learn MoreThe exhaust in the flue is gravity-vented. Therefore, its vent pressure is rated as "non-positive," which is why it can be vented in common with a gravity-vented water heater. Category II Appliances include those not typically intended for residential use. Exceptions are boilers and wall-vented water heaters.
Learn MoreAir vents are designed for use on heating systems. Our line includes products such as high-capacity air vents that provide automatic air venting for hot or cold water distribution systems and models with a manual vent feature for fast venting of residential and commercial systems.
Learn More19871022When you find the vent, open it while holding a small container, like a measuring cup with a handle, beneath it. Air should escape from the valve, followed by a pressurized stream of hot water.
Learn MoreWell, we have had this 50 gallon hot water heater w/power vent for about 4 years now. This morning I heard the power vent running after my wife took a shower. Did not think much of it. Then we went out to lunch and did a little shopping. When we returned (around 3 or so), the vent was still running.
Learn MoreIf youre considering converting an old, non-captive-type expansion tank to a captive-air expansion tank, an easy rule of thumb is to replace the existing tank with the model that is equal to the existing tanks volume. For example, if a 15-gal. tank is hanging from the ceiling, replace it with a No. 15 bladder-type tank. At the time that you do this, you must install an auto vent to get rid of the

Learn MoreThe giant chimney of the power plant is filled with a column of cold, dense air. The small amount of warm, or hot air, from your water heater would have a tough time offsetting this falling air that's trying to enter your home. If that were to happen, it could drag some of the exhaust gas back into your basement.
Learn MoreI have an oil-fired hot water baseboard heating system. It has an air purger with an expansion tank screwed into the bottom and an automatic air vent on top of the air purger. The air vent is leaking some water. Based on tapping the expansion tank it does not seem waterlogged (bottom 2/3rd of tank sounds hollow or empty).
Learn MoreHot Water Boilers - HVAC Hydronic Heating - People who use boilers for their primary source of heat report that they love the kind of heat that a boiler provides, whether they have a hot water steam boiler. If you thought that there is only one type of heat, you might want to reconsider. All you have to do is add adjectives to the beginning of the word heat.
Learn MoreEvery so often, your hot water boiler will need to have air purged from it. When this needs to happen you will know because you will not be getting sufficient hot water. Basically, purging your boiler will involve getting all of the air out of it so that the water that is in the boiler will be able to run through it freely.
Learn MoreShut off the inlet water, let the whole system cool, and then de-pressurize the system by opening a drain, and then close the drain- once you do that, relatively little water should come through the 1/8" opening for the air vent, because there won't be any pressure pushing it, and nothing should really drain or siphon out a hole that small, at least not very fast.
Learn MoreLifebreath AH Series Hydronic Air Handlers. Hydronic air handler with heating capacity of 25,000 to 110,000 BTU and add on air conditioning capacity of 2 to 4 tons. Compatible with a hot water heater or boiler.
Learn MoreEvery natural and propane gas water heater needs properly designed venting system so it can safely remove the flue gases (byproducts of combustion) outside, and draw the fresh air in for the proper gas combustion. The venting system must be correctly sized to handle the total BTU input of the water heater.
